Two persons were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township by ambulance just before 6 p.m. Saturday after their sport utility vehicle crashed into the side of a flatbed tow truck on Route 895 in West Penn Township.

The driver of a red Chevy SUV, traveling north on Summer Valley Road, reportedly struck the driver's side of the tow truck, owned by A-1 Towing Service of Allentown, which was partially on the road as it was unloading a conversion van at a nearby home.

Witnesses stated the incident could have been much worse since there were persons around the tow truck at the time of the crash. Responding were township police, fire company, fire police and Lehighton ambulance.

A call to township police to obtain the names of the injured was not returned this morning.
