Two are injured in head-on crash

Two persons were injured in a head-on crash at 8:25 a.m. Dec. 20 on Route 443 in North Manheim Township, according to state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks.

Police said Joshua A. Sophy, 18, and Michael G. Kurchock, 53, both of Port Carbon, were hurt in the crash. The severity of their injuries is unknown, police said.

Police said the crash occurred when Sophy, driving a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 westbound on Rt. 443, crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a 1990 Ford Bronco, driven by Kurchock, head-on. The Bronco was pushed backwards and came to rest off the side of the eastbound lane while Sophy's vehicle continued to travel forward and struck a tree before coming to a halt.

Police said Sophy will by cited for causing the accident.
