Three injured in West Penn crash

Three persons were injured, two seriously, in a violent crash Sunday afternoon at the intersection of state routes 309 and 895 in the village of Snyders, West Penn Township. The crash occurred at 5 p.m. involving a car driven by Ida Kupres of Tamaqua and a pickup truck driven by Christian Deem of New Ringgold. Both vehicles came to rest in the north bound lanes. An unknown female was also in the passenger seat of the car during the collision. Kupres was trapped in the wreckage for 45 minutes before being freed by members of the West Penn Fire Company No. 1. Deem refused treatment, while Kupres and her passenger were treated at the scene by members of the New Ringgold, Penn Mahoning and Lehighton Ambulance before being flown from the scene by MedEvac and PennStar helicopters. West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. West Penn township police officer Glenn Laninger is still investigating.
