A Luzerne County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident in Monroe County.

State police at Fern Ridge said troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash about 8:13 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, along Little Twig Road, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said a 1994 Mercedes-Benz was operated by Gzim Mehmed, 33, of Hazleton, when it left the road and caused property damage and struck a tree.

Mehmedi was found to be under the influence and was taken into custody for suspected DUI, troopers said. The property owner was identified as Raymond J. Phillips, of Effort.
