An elderly Carbon County resident was killed and his wife seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 8:04 p.m. Wednesday.
State police at Fern Ridge said the crash occurred on the on-ramp at Exit 277 to Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
Troopers identified the victim as Francis F. Forrester, 74, of Albrightsville. He was a passenger in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by his wife, Mary A. Forrester, 76.
Troopers said Mrs. Forrester failed to negotiate a curve on the ramp, traveled across the road and went down and struck an embankment, coming to rest facing north on the shoulder.
Francis Forrester was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said, and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Carbon County deputy coroner.
His wife had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel. She was flown by PennStar helicopter to the Geisinger-Wyoming Medical Center, in Plains Township, Luzerne County.
Assisting troopers were Kidder Township Fire Company personnel and ambulances from Lehighton and Lake Harmony.
