15 guns, pickup stolen in township

A Lehighton man has been lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility after being charged with committing a burglary at a Mahoning Township residence and stealing a pickup truck and 15 firearms.

David Keer Jr., 26, faces 15 counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He also faces additional charges of burglary and theft by unlawful taking movable property.

The charges were filed with District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe by officers Audie Mertz and Tyler Meek of the township police.

Police said the burglary happened on Feb. 13.

An extensive investigation was conducted involving police from Allentown, Whitehall Township, Lehigh Township and Moore Township.

Mahoning police said that with the assistance of these agencies, the vehicle was recovered in Allentown and 12 of the firearms were located in Lehigh County.

Police said the three missing firearms were entered into the National Crime Information Center Database. The database, also known as NCIC, is the nationwide database that provides stolen records to law enforcement agencies across the nation.
