Tamaqua man facing drug counts

A police call for an unwanted person led to drug charges for a Hometown man.

Tamaqua police were called at 12:30 a.m. Aug. 17 and were told there was an unwanted person on the porch at 401 Hazle St. Officers found Joshua Michael DeWire, 26, sitting on the porch, charging his cellphone. There were two cigarette packs on a table alongside DeWire.When the officer picked up one of the cigarette packs, DeWire immediately said it wasn't his. Inside the pack were 13 bags containing suspected heroin.When asked again, DeWire admitted the heroin was his.He was cited for possession of a controlled substance.
