Tamaqua man jailed for assault

A Tamaqua man was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, after he was arrested on domestic violence charges. Borough police were dispatched to 1 S. Lehigh St., multiple times that day, with the incidents spanning two shifts.

According to the victim, Stephanie Giove, Alexander J. Modawar, 31, harassed and struck her multiple times throughout the day, always leaving when she called police. During one incident, at 2:30 p.m., Modawar grabbed her by the head, spit in her face, knocked over the television and threw the children's car seats into the street. At 8:59 p.m. Modawar returned to the residence and shoved Giove.

Officers arrived and were able to take him into custody during the last incident.

Modawar was arraigned on two counts each of simple assault and harassment. Bail was set at $5,000 straight cash for both incidents, meaning Modawar would have to post $10,000 bail. Unable to post bail he was incarcerated in the county prison.
