Panther Valley upset Blue Mt.

Panther Valley took a huge step toward qualifying for the District 11 playoffs by upsetting Blue Mountain on Thursday.

Panther Valley used a strong second half spurt to knock off Blue Mountain for a 48-40 Schuylkill League win.

The Panthers (9-10, 3-7) need to win two of their last three games to qualify for districts. PV closes the season with games at Palmerton (Saturday), at Tamaqua (Monday) and vs. Pine Grove (Thursday).

The Panthers' Brock Mitchell led all scorers with a game-high 16 points while both Steve Romanchik and Nate Mathewson added 11 points.

Peter Harding paced the Blue Eagles (15-5, 7-4) with a 13-point performance.

Four players scored in double figures as Pottsville ran away with a 67-39 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Travis Blankenhorn, Brandon Bridy and Shavinski Thomas all had 14 points for the Tide (18-1, 11-0).

Ben Moore was the lone Olympian (5-13, 1-9) to hit double figures with 10 points.

Mahanoy Area-Weatherly

Mahanoy Area jumped out early and never looked back to post a 69-32 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Tyler Cavanus paced the Golden Bears with 17 points.

Josh Reiner led the Wreckers (5-14, 1-11) with 11 points.

In the JV game, Mahanoy Area posted a 66-44 win over Weatherly. Brett Kelly netted a Wreckers' high 13 points.
