Three LAHS students named to District Chorus

The Lehighton Area High School Chorus has much to sing about this year in preparation for their performances next year in Disney World.
Three students were recently selected to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Associations District 10 Chorus for 2013.
They are Schyler Cordova, Elyse Kistler, and Noah Williams.
District 10 Chorus is being hosted Berks Catholic High School February 7-9.
The students competed against almost 900 students from seven area counties to be selected to this honor choir. Students from Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks county form District 10.
Schyler is a junior and the daughter of Stanley and Cindy Cordova of East Penn Township. She is an active member of Lehighton High School's Student Council, National Honor Society and Jazz Choir "Varsity Voices."
She is also a varsity letter winner in show choir, basketball, and soccer. Along with these activities she is also 2014 Class President and the Choir's Secretary.
Outside of school she is a Zion Opera Workshop participant, takes private vocal and piano lessons, and is an active member of Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ashfield.
Elyse is a senior and the daughter of Paul and Cheryl Kistler of East Penn Township.
She is an active member of Show Choir, Varsity Voices, National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Red Cross, and FBLA. She is the secretary of her graduating class and Student Council, president of chorus, in top 10 percent, and is currently ranked third in her class.
Outside of school Elyse takes private piano, harp, and voice lessons; dances and teaches at her local dance studio; takes part in Zion Opera Workshop annually; and is an active member of her church.
Noah Williams is a sophomore and the son of Derrick and Jennifer Williams of East Penn Township. He is an active member of the Lehighton High School Concert Band, Marching Band, Choir and Varsity Voices. He is also the Choir's quartermaster. Noah is a part time accompanist at Long Run Church of the Brethren.
The guest conductor of the District Chorus is Dr. Russ Shelley, who is the Elma Stine Heckler Professor of Music at Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA), where he serves as chair of the Department of Music. Conducting responsibilities at Juniata include the Concert Choir and Choral Union.
The students will be singing a wide variety of music covering many genres. At the festival the students will audition for Regional Chorus which will be hosted by Hamburg High School later in March.
