Tamaqua woman escapes injury

A Tamaqua woman escaped injuries in a two-vehicle mishap at 6:50 a.m. Dec. 27 on Interstate 81 in Kline Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said Heather L. Loar, 32, was uninjured afetr a vehicle she was driving was struck by a tractor trailer.

Police said she was northbound on the interstate and in the left lane of travel passing the rig when it drifted into the left lane and struck Loar's 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. Police said after the rig made momentary contact with the car, the latter went out of control, slid off the left side of the travel lane and landed in a ditch in the highway median.

Police said the driver of the tractor trailer stopped to check if Loar was injured and then fled north on the interstate without identifying himself.

Loar's vehicle sustained substantial damages and was towed from the scene.
