Pedestrian killed in Lehigh accident
State police at the Fogelsville barracks said a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle while examining a disabled vehicle on Interstate 78 at 9:44 p.m. Dec. 26 died of injuries from the accident.
The name of the decedent has not been released by police, who said he was pronounced dead at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
Police said he had walked out onto the left lane of travel on the interstate in South Whitehall Township to check on a vehicle that had been disabled from a previous crash. At the time, a 2003 GMC Yukon driven by Valerie L. Cavagnaro, 41, of Newington, Conn., proceeding west on the interstate, began to spin clockwise and subsequently struck the man with the rear driver's side portion of the vehicle.
