Pool Pals, Lioness/Lions Club combine for community caroling
RON GOWER/TIMES NEWS Two Lehighton organizations combined to brighten the Christmas holidays by singing Christmas carols.
Two organizations combined in Lehighton and traveled throughout the community for Christmas caroling.
Lehighton Pool Pals and the Lehighton Area Lioness/Lions Club visited such locations as the Lehighton Hi Rise, the Lehighton American Legion Post, and various homes of individuals.
At the hi-rise, several residents joined the approximately 20 club members in the singing.
The evening for thePool Pals began with their scheduled monthly meeting.
President Mark Hoffman cut the session short, though, so the caroling could commence.
Hoffman said, "The Pool Pals decided to go out into the community as a group spreading good will in the form of Christmas caroling. The Pool Pals are constantly looking for ways to spread good will and this was an idea born at their October meeting."
The Pool Pals were originally formed in 2006 to raise money to help support the reconstruction and re-opening of the closed Baer Memorial swimming pool. They were very successful in raising over $130,000 through various fund raising efforts.
Once the pool opened in 2010, the Pool Pals decided to stay together to support the pool and changed the slogan on their T-shirts from "Save the Pool" to "Creating Lifetime Memories."
Some of the items they have been instrumental in obtaining since the pool opened are the Blue Ridge Family Pavilion, ping pong table, security system and large umbrella by the baby pool.
Hoffman said besides buying these items, the Pool Pals help to defray the cost of swimming lessons by contributing a minimum of $2,000/year towards the cost of swimming lessons. In 2013,the Pool Pals are hoping to raise enough money to purchase a small playground for the area near the kiddie pool.
The Pool Pals have been very busy planning their 2013 fund raising season working on getting ready for their second annual Cabin Fever dance as well as their annual yard sale/Chinese auction.
The Cabin Fever Dance will be held at the Orioles on February 23 with DJ "Doc" Layne Roberts promising to make the event even more fun and exciting than last year. A dance contest will once again be part of the festivities with those participating having a chance to win a 2013 season pass at the pool.
In April the Pool Pals and Rotary organization will join forces for their fourth consecutive year hosting their annual yard sale/Chinese auction.
To continue this spirit of working together, the Pool Pals invited other organizations to join them in the caroling on December 19 and were very pleased to welcome members of the Lehighton Lions/Lioness's as they joined them in their caroling efforts.
