Tamaqua signs contract to refurbish athletic fields
The grass is always greener…….when it's been properly maintained.
The Tamaqua Area School District athletic fields should be greener, and smoother, next year, as a result of action taken by the school board Tuesday. The board approved a contract with Tomlinson Bomberger, Lancaster, a company that specializes in constructing and refurbishing athletic fields. The contract has a $28,000 cap.
The board also approved Clem McCarroll, Tamaqua, as the Varsity Girls' Soccer Coach for 2013-14 at a stipend to be determined. A number of volunteer coaches were also approved: Zane Bachert, New Ringgold, wrestling; Allison Updike, Nesquehoning, girls' basketball; Brianna Boyle, New Ringgold, softball; and Matthew DelBorrello, Tamaqua, baseball.
Superintendent Carol Makuta told the board that she and Red Raider Band Director Mark Beltz continue to research the possible purchase of new band uniforms. Unfortunately, they have learned that none of the companies which have responded with bids offer payment plans. Business manager Connie Ligenza said that she is researching possible uniform leasing options.
Robert Beruck, Pottsville, was approved as a substitute guest teacher. Five people were approved as substitute paraprofessionals: Joyce Blocker, Lehighton; Deirdre Cibak, Sugarloaf; Autumn Cleary, McAdoo; Rebecca Hoffman, Tamaqua; and Tatevik Sakash, Tamaqua. Karen Metzger, New Ringgold, was hired as a full-time paraprofessional, effective Dec. 19.
The law firm of Bowe, Lisella and Bowe, Tamaqua, was reappointed as the school solicitor law firm at a retainer of $5,200 and a rate of $150 per hour.
