Team Triple Nickel raises funds for Cancer Society
VICTOR IZZO/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Four-year-old Caroline Attewell is all smiles as she meets Santa Claus at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe on Sunday morning during Team Triple Nickel's 9th annual "Breakfast With Santa".
This past Sunday morning, at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe, the Relay for Life team of "Team Triple Nickel" held its 9th annual "Breakfast With Santa" to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Hundreds of children, parents, and grandparents enjoyed a magical breakfast with music and entertainment in addition to a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and friends.
Also greeting everyone were the Christmas Bear, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the Happy Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa's Elves.
This year, Team Triple Nickel raised $3,500 for the American Cancer Society with two sold-out seatings of 150 guests each.
Boy Scouts of Troop 555 and Girl Scouts of Troops 30135 and 34229 joined together to help out by carrying guests' food to their tables for them, and then helping to clear the tables when they had finished.
In addition to meeting Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and their friends, each child received two stuffed toys and a bag of Hershey Kisses.
Everything from the food and toys, to the Chinese auction items were donated along with the musicprovided by DJ Brandon Fritz.
Also helping make the fundraiser possible with donations to help pay for the hall rental were the Jim Thorpe National Bank and the Mauch Chunk Trust Company.
Team Captains for the ACS Relay for Life team of Team Triple Nickel are Ray Attewell and Sue Urban.
They said that "next year will be our 10th anniversary for this ACS fundraiser and we're already making plans to make it bigger than this year."
