Palmerton Area Library holds Christmas party for children

The Palmerton Area Library, located at 402 Delaware Ave. has something for everyone.

This holiday season, "Get in the Spirit!" with the children's Christmas party, Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Kids, ages 3 through 3rd grade, are invited to come in their pajamas to hear stories and music, make a craft and enjoy a delicious snack. It is sponsored by the Teen Group.

Other children activities include:

*Preschool Story Hour every Friday at 10:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public. There will be no Story Hour on Dec. 28.

*Tail Waggin' Tutuors Kids read to Dogs the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. It is free but parents must preregister for a time slot by calling the library at 610-826-3424. Next program will be on Dec. 8.

*Watercolor Painting Classes offered two days a week for children. Call the teacher at 610-824-4962 for more information.

*Homework Helpers is every Wednesday from 3-4:30 p.m. Volunteer tutors will help your child with his/her homework and other assignments. It is free but parents must register each child.

*Teen Advisory Group for teens in grades 5-12. New members are always welcome. Check out the fantastic painted mural done by the teens this summer. Call the library and ask for Mariann for details.

The Library needs volunteers in the following areas: The Basement Book Sale; tutors for Homework Helpers; shelving books; reading at Story Hour. Call the library @ 610-826-3424 and ask for Mariann.

There are many activities for all ages like:

*Knitting Club meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. It is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.

*Third Monday Book Club meets the third Monday of each month at 12-1 p.m. and discusses a different book each month. On Dec. 17 the club will be discussing "Paris Wife" by Paula McLain. New members are always welcome.

*Yoga classes are offered every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Call the teacher at 570-436-1762 for more information or stop in on Saturday morning.

*Library Board of Directors meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. December's meeting will be on Dec. 12 due to the holidays.

*Friends of the Palmerton Area Library meet four times a year. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 7 p.m.

*Quilt Guild meets at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Please use the side door. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm.

There are always used books and movies for sale. The Palmerton Area Library basement book sale is open regular library hours. New books arrive on a weekly basis as well as movies, puzzles and CD's. They are priced to sell. Volunteers are always needed to sort and place books on shelves.
