Built around the 1920s, two adjacent homes located in Tamaqua's expanded business district are coming down. According to the contractors, the homes, 125 and 127 Center Street (SR309), are being razed to allow for two empty grass-covered lots. The Schuylkill Parcel Locator website shows both properties as owned by Jude Michael Gaydos of Schuylkill Haven. Doing the demolition is Walter J. Mintz, Inc., of Schuylkill Haven. Contractors added that even though the properties were lived in over the past few years the owner doesn't have plans for the land yet. They added it would not have been cost effective to do repairs to the homes. In addition to both homes and the two empty lots located adjacent to the homes (next to Burger King), Gaydos owns more than two dozen properties throughout Schuylkill County, including properties in Tamaqua, Schuylkill Haven, West Brunswick Township, East Brunswick Township, Orwigsburg, Mahanoy City, West Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy Township and Wayne Township. Gaydos also operates a dental practice in Schuylkill Haven. Contractors added after they remove the debris the lot will resemble the empty adjacent lots, also owned by Michael.
