Santa's coming

Santa Claus is coming to town from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville. He will also arrive at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be provided and nonperishable gifts for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network and Toys for Tots will be accepted.

PVEN Board

The monthly meeting of the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville.

Special Masses

Our Lady Queen of Peace will celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, Dec. 7, at the vigil or with Mass on Saturday. In addition, regular Mass will be offered Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Both are obligatory events.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The next meeting of the Prayer Shawl Group at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is set for 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Dec. 8. Those planning to attend are asked to call (610) 681-6137, ext. 17.

Sunday school presentation

"Through the Eyes of a Child" will be presented by Zion Sunday School children during the 10:30 a.m., Dec. 9, worship service at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville. This is a unique look at the story of Jesus' birth through the eyes of children.

Blood pressure screening

The Chestnuthill Senior Center, at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will offer free blood pressure screenings for qualifying persons from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, courtesy of one of several helpful agencies.

Children's Choir

Effort UMC's Children Choir will present a concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The community is invited to come and support the children.

Combined meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will hold three things in one evening, Tuesday, Dec. 18.

At 5 p.m., the club's board will meet. At 6 p.m. the full club will hold a social hour, followed by the monthly meeting at 7 p.m., which includes a gift exchange and cookie bonanza.

Christmas Puppet show

Gospel Ministries to Children will present a free Christmas puppet show at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Countryside Alliance Church in Brodheadsville.

Helpful Leos

Pleasant Valley High School Leos' Petoberfest in October netted 935 pounds of pet food; 1,170 pounds of cat litter; and boxes of toys, gently-used towels, blankets, sheets and cleaning supplies.

The Leos also collected around 25 turkeys for local food pantries and about 600 used coats. Half were given to needy students in the school district and the remainder will be given to PVEN for distribution at its community service center.

This high school community service group is also collecting supplies for victims of Hurricane Sandy, such as paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, or napkins. The club now has its own website now at
