The aim of the Medication Administration Check (MAK) system is to ensure patient safety. To use the system, a nurse must follow a set of steps:

1. The medication order is received

2. The order travels to the hospital's pharmacy by interface, and the medication is added to the profile

3. The medication is delivered to the nursing unit

4. The nurse logs onto the unit by scanning her badge

5. The orders are verified by the nurse in MAK

6. The patient is selected in the system

7. The nurse selects the item to be administered

8. The medication's bar code is scanned

9. The patient's bracelet bar code is scanned

10. The medication is administered

11. The nurse scans her badge
