Published December 01. 2012 09:04AM

The annual ecumenical Christmas canta, featuring singers and musicians of many area churches, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Zion United Church of Christ, Lehighton.

The cantata has over 70 singers.

The group of singers will be accompanied by Zion's Festival Orchestra, a group of 20 musicians from Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The Cantata, "One King," tells the story of the birth of Christ through readings and contemporary and classical songs.

Soloists for the event are Brent Harris and Shannon Frycklund.

Narrators are Kathy Long and Judy Harris. Also featured are Zion's Choraliers and friend, a junior choir.

In addition to the cantata itself, Cindy Mack will provide music from Zion's grand pipe organ and the Festival Orchestra will provide additional music ranging from O Holy Night to music from the Polar Express.

This cantata was created by former Zion UCC Director of Music, Paul R. Smith, 36 years ago.

The current Director of Music, Brad Cressley, has continued the tradition.

The event is free to the public.
