Raymond Scarnaty Jr., 45, of Tobyhanna, was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, after he was caught shoplifting on Aug. 25 at 4:41 p.m. at Bill's Shop Rite in Mount Pocono.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said they were summoned to the store after its loss prevention personnel detained Scarnaty after he was observed trying to steal two air conditioners valued at $249 from the premises. Police said video surveillance showed Scarnaty attempting to leave the store with the air conditioners.

Police said he was taken into custody and charged with a felony count of retail theft because of having prior incidents, resulting in his incarceration.
