Weissport's popular Redneck Festival will be held Labor Day weekend in the Weissport Park in the center of the town.

The festivities, including the Redneck games, contests and food vendors and live entertainment, will be from noon to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit youth recreation in Weissport. The event is sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Committee.

The event will open on Saturday morning with the dedication of the new gazebo in the borough park and to thank the sponsors who helped support the event.

"This is the only festival in the area where everyone is invited to participate in the events," said Duane Dellecker, committee chairman. "This festival lets everyone who wants to take part be involved."

For those who would rather watch, there is always the opportunity to cheer on the participants who compete in the contests.

There is the Tug a War contest at 5 p. m. Sunday, which pits some of the biggest and brawniest men in the county against each other. In past years, there were weight lifters and personal trainers trying to prove they were stronger then the guys from Alfie's pizza.

Also a great event is the Junkman's Contest, where young men try to prove they are the best Junkers in the county. Persons able to pick up refrigerators, stoves and other household junk in the fastest time will be the winner. The Junkman's Contest will be held at 5 p. m. Saturday.

No Redneck Festival is complete without locating the prettiest girl in the area. The classy Miss Daisy Duke contest is set for 7 p. m. Saturday. The Mr. Redneck Contest will also held at that time.

The Chariot Race, in which teams of two people take turns riding a toilet mounted on wheels down the middle of town, will be at 3 p. m. Sunday.

For those who love to eat, there are plenty of opportunities. The best local restaurants in the area will be supplying buckets of their best wings to capture the title of Zimmies and Hot Wings Eating Cook-Off contest at 1 p. m. Saturday. The restaurant who supplies the best wings will receive not only "bragging rights" but the opportunity to display the Best Wings at the Weissport Redneck Festival trophy in their establishment for the next year. Judges are people in the audience who vote by sampling the wings.

New this year is the Lawn Tractor Polo, which will surely be a big event at the festival. Lawn Tractor Polo will be held at 4 p. m. Sunday.

There is also a Redneck's Got Talent II Contest at 2 p. m. Saturday, followed by the Ugliest Pickup Truck at 3 p. m. Saturday; Korniest Couple Contest at 4 p.m.; I Luv My Mummy Contest at 6 p. m. Saturday.

Also on Sunday, there will be a Watermelon Eating Contest at 1 p.m.; Big Wheel Contest at 2 p. m.; and Bednobs and Rednecks Bed Race at 6 p. m. The Best Rack Contest will be at 8 p. m.

Sign-up for the events will be held throughout the festival and registration will close approximately 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin.

Entertainment will be provided on Saturday from 6 to 10 p. m. by Banned From the Ranch, a country rock band; and on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p. m., T. Bag and the Creamers, country variety rock; and at 6 to 9 Final Justice, country rock.

There will also be plenty of Redneck delicacies to sample in park such as pork barbecue, corn dogs and corn on the cob and then visitors can wash down the succulent food with plenty of sweet tea and beer.
