Motorcyclist flees police, is charged

A Monroe County motorcyclist led police on a chase and is now facing charges. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident occurred on Aug. 4 along SR115.

Police said a motorcyclist was tailgating a police cruiser while southbound on SR115 in Tunkhannock Township. The biker then passed the police car and another vehicle in a unsafe manner. Police activated the emergency lights and siren on their vehicle and attempted to stop the cyclist.

He accelerated passing numerous vehicles in an unsafe manner and at an unsafe speed. The pursuit continued into Northampton County. Police broke off the pursuit in the borough of Wind Gap.

Through an investigation police were able to identify the cyclist as Richard Abbazio, 27, of Pocono Lake. He has been charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and various other motor vehicle code violations.
