Tamaqua prepares for new school year
In preparation for the 2012-2013 school year, the Tamaqua school district has a number of activities scheduled for this week.
"Meet the Raider Night" will be held this Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m., in the district's sports stadium, located at the intersection of Spruce Street and Stadium Hill. All Fall sports participants, cheerleaders and coaches will be recognized. The "Raider Marching Band" will also be recognized and will perform its field show.
The event is open to the public at no charge. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the event will be held Aug. 29, same time and place.
Kindergarten orientation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Rush and West Penn Township Elementary schools. The Rush facility will also hold a "Back to School Night" for all students and parents.
At West Penn, parents of students attending the morning session will begin orientation at 6:30 p.m., while those in the afternoon session will meet at 7:30 p.m.
The Rush Elementary School will be open that evening between 6 and 8 p.m. Orientation for parents with students in the morning session will meet at 6:30 p.m., with the afternoon session orientation at 7:30 p.m. First grade and Kindergarten Plus teachers will also be available, conducting informational sessions beginning at 7 p.m. A review of the curriculum and routine procedures will also be explained.
Classes for the district will begin on Monday, Aug. 27.
