Man injured after striking tree in Ryan Township

Kevin Warmkessel, 23, of Port Carbon, was lifeflighted to Lehigh Valley Hospital, in Salisbury Township, after striking a tree just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Tuscarora Mountain Road, near the intersection of Church Street in Ryan Township.

Rescuers were seen using hydraulic equipment to free Warmkessel from the vehicle, a 2004 Suzuki, which was wrapped around the tree. Responding were emergency responders from Citizen's Fire Company of Mahanoy City, Ryan Township Rescue and Delano Fire Company.

Hometown Fire Company set up the landing zone for the helicopter, which landed at the Ryan Township fire station. Rush Township Police also responded.

Ryan Township Police state that Warmkessel was traveling north when he lost control. They also stated the incident is still under investigation, pending blood test results.
