A committee of Jim Thorpe residents view the restoration of the once-famous Switchback Railroad as a must in the continuing revival of the spirit of tourism in the community. The meeting was called by councilman Jay Miller and held in the borough building. About a dozen people attended. The Switchback, in its entirety, represented a spectacular 18-mile ride from Mauch Chunk to Summit Hill and return. It was discontinued as a tourist attraction in the early 1900s.
