Multi-event benefit planned for Andreas man battling brain injury

Published August 17. 2012 05:02PM

Friends and family of Regen thor Straten of Andreas are organizing a multi-event benefit on Sunday, Aug. 26, to help him defray medical costs following a recent brain injury.

On June 5, Straten was flown to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem with a brain bleed after falling down a flight of steps. He has since been moved to a rehabilitation facility in Plymouth Meeting.

In addition to a number of other organizations, Straten has been a paramedic with Lehighton Ambulance Association for many years and also runs on the Hot Team for Pocono Raceway. He is the father of a 4 year old boy and was engaged to be married early next year.

The fundraiser will consist of a motorcycle ride, Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, as well as music and food at the end of the ride. The ride will begin at the West End Fire Company No. 2, 855 Princeton Ave., Palmerton, with kick stands up at noon. It then makes a stop at the Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1, and eventually ends at the West Penn Fire Company, 21 Municipal Rd. in West Penn. Ride registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers point out that any one who pre-registers before Aug. 19 will get a free a T-shirt.

The Chinese Auction, also being held at the West Penn Fire Company, starts at 2 p.m., with the drawing at 6 p.m. Entertainment will follow and last until late. Volunteers encourage anyone to participate in the ride or to simply come to the West Penn Fire Company afterwards to enjoy the other activities in support of Straten.
