N.Y. resident killed in Lehigh pileup
A New York state resident was killed in a four-vehicle pileup that occurred along Interstate 78 in Allentown, Lehigh County. State police at Fogelsville said the crash occurred about 10:23 a.m. Wednesday.
Troopers said Michael Lugo, 19, of Philadelphia, driving a 1995 Toyota Camry, pulled onto the center berm because of a flat tire and was in the process of pulling back out into the left lane when his vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2010 Mazda 6 driven by Raymond Rooney, 52, of Goshen, N.Y. After impact the Camry spun and came to rest partially on the center berm and left lane. After impact the Mazda spun and struck the left side of a Ford Focus driven by Leah Faust, 18, no address given.
After that impact the Mazda continued westbound and struck the left running board and left side fuel tank of a Freightliner tractor with trailer driven by Glenn Pettus, 24, of Chase City, Va.
A left rear seat passenger in the Mazda, identified as Linda Rooney, 51, of Goshen, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lugo and Raymond Rooney were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, while Faust was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Allentown Campus. Passengers with Lugo, Jose Gonzalez, 19, and three 17-year-old males, all from Philadelphia, were all taken to LVH, one in serious condition, troopers said.
Two passengers with Rooney, Megan Rooney, 22, and a 15-year-old male, both from Goshen, were taken to LVH. Pettus was not injured.
Troopers said the investigation into the crash is continuing.
