Lehighton is experiencing trouble with bicycles, so much so that Mayor Albert U. Koch requested council to update the bicycle ordinance. To date, 535 bikes have been licensed. Nine of the two-wheelers were impounded by the police department last month for various infractions. The bicycles were returned to their owners after they were first informed of the importance of safety and compliance with the law. The mayor is recommending that all bicycle traffic be prohibited in the business section of the borough.
