Pedestrian struck in Schuylkill

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in an incident in Schuylkill County that occurred about 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, along SR443, west of Dreher Road, in West Brunswick Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Denise D. Halbrook, 49, of New Ringgold, was driving a 2008 Lincoln Town Car westbound while Sandra D. Kline, 46, of Orwigsburg, was standing along the westbound shoulder.

Troopers said as Halbrook approached Kline she entered the roadway. Halbrook swerved to avoid the pedestrian as Kline then began to run. The passenger side quarter panel of the car struck Kline.

After impact Kline was thrown against the windshield, then fell off the car and came to rest in the westbound lane on her right side.

Kline suffered multiple head injuries and was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she was admitted in stable condition. Halbrook was not injured. Damages were minor to the car.

Troopers indicated Halbrook would not be charged.
