Four first time donors were welcomed to the July 18 American Red Cross Bloodmobile held in Tamaqua Anne Miller, Juliann Lesnick, Richard Barsky and Jillian O'Malley.

The drive collected a total of 36 units of the "gift of life."

The gym at the Salvation Army was transformed into a blood collection center through the efforts of Randy and Jim Gormley, Bob Zeplin, Jack Quinn, Mike Trubilla, Joe Rimm and Jack Rarick.

Volunteers assisting with the drive included Bob and Dolly Shirey, Jean Stevens, Claudette Zarra, Bob and Darlene Heckman.

Two gallon pins were awarded to David Mooney and Michael Shaup.

This visit was sponsored by the City Limits Bakery of Tamaqua.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for August, including the monthly birthday celebration on Aug. 17.

Other activities for the month will include: Aug. 6, bingo and luau; Aug. 13, craft day; Aug. 15, Salvation Army service; Aug. 21, sing-a-long; Aug. 23, cooking class; Aug. 24, picnic at Holy Family; and Aug. 29, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ.

In addition to weekly sing-a-longs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.

Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.

Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided, may call (570) 668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Cressona band

The Cressona Band has been appearing locally over the summer months, providing free entertainment.

The final appearance will be Aug. 5, from 4-6 p.m., at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.

The performance will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.

Calvary Evangelical

All services connected with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day.

Sunday services are held at 10:25 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Edward Bean officiating. Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.

An hour of prayer and praise will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The annual Tabernacle services will begin Aug. 24 and continue through Labor Day evening. Evening services will be held daily at 7 p.m. Special guests will be evangelist and song leaders, the Rev. Larry and Tamla Leckrone of Kurtz, Ind.; and missionaries Rod and Jan Dormer on Aug. 29.

Special music will be presented by the Wehry Family on Sept. 2 and Larry Moore on Labor Day, Sept. 3.
