Freeland man jailed for Rush incident

Published August 01. 2012 05:02PM

A Freeland man was treated to a stay in the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, following a retail theft incident in Hometown.

Rush Township police were dispatched to the Hometown Commons Walmart at 10:08 a.m. Sunday after a man stole a television valued at $289. Officers responded to the super center and attempted to take Robert M. Bonney Jr., 33, into custody. Bonney fled in a vehicle traveling into Kline Township. He then abandoned the vehicle near a silt dam, fleeing into a wooded area.

A search of the area was conducted by Rush and Ryan Township, McAdoo and state police. He was eventually located and arraigned before District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing/attempting to elude police, and various traffic charges.

As Bonney was out on bail on previous retail theft charges the judge set bail at $25,000. The defendant was unable to post bond and taken to the county prison.
