PennDOT contractors with AWK Consulting Engineers INC, Camp Hill, spent the last week taking measurements and performing other ground tests in preparation for Penn-DOT's rehabilitation of the East Broad Street (SR209) bridge in Tamaqua. Actual bridge reconstruction work isn't scheduled to begin until at least 2013. For more information, contact Tamaqua Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt at (570) 668-3444 or 668-0300. PennDOT sub-contractors John Swope, left, and Ricky Kirelawich, with AWK Consulting Engineers, use a geotechnical drilling rig to bore 8 test holes and test pits through the bridge. This will help determine the condition of the bridge's subsurface, gathering information in advance of the actual project.
