Tamaqua concert features classic and popular songs

"The best leaders are great followers," said Tamaqua band member Erin Raymond in describing this year's new band director, Mark Beltz, during the Tamaqua Area High School Music Department's Annual Spring Concert held in the school district auditorium Thursday night.

"Mr. Beltz, thank you for following us from elementary school to high school and proudly leading The Pride of Tamaqua, The Tamaqua Raider Band," said Raymond, who is a senior.The concert, which featured the school's Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and the Raider Concert Band, included many classic and popular songs, such as "The Blue and Gray", "Pachinko", "Hawaii Five-O" theme, "Fly Me to the Moon", "Something", and "At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral."Awards were also presented to various students during the concert. Beltz also thanked the Tamaqua Board of Education, administration, faculty, staff, Stephen Toth, Tom McCabe, Christopher Czapla, as well as all the parents, friends, volunteers and relatives for their tireless efforts with the music program.
