The operator of a logging tractor trailer narrowly escaped death Thursday afternoon after a mishap on the Gangloff Tree farm in East Brunswick Township.

The accident occurred just after 4 p.m. on a steep hillside just off SR443 near the village of Hecla.

The driver was attempting to turn the rig around and the trailer filled with logs rolled onto the rear of the truck tractor.

The weight of the load crushed the rear of the cab, trapping the driver.

A heavy duty wrecker from Soley Towing was used to secure the logs while members of at least four fire companies worked to free the victim. It took about two hours to free the driver from the wreckage.

The victim and his fellow workers were an independent contactor other than those who work on the tree farm.

Responding fire companies included Community Fire Company of New Ringgold, West Penn Fire Company, Orwigsburg Fire Company and the Yorkville Rescue Squad of Pottsville.
