A Lansford man escaped injury after his car crashed into the woods in Schuylkill Township just before 12 p.m. yesterday.

State police at Frackville said Chester F. Schaeffer, 32, was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable northbound toward Tamaqua on SR209, also called the Pottsville Stretch, when he veered off the east berm. Schaeffer overcompensated, troopers said, and re-entered the road where he lost control.

The car went off the west berm and struck a deer crossing road sign and some trees before coming to rest in the woods. Schaeffer was not injured.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Tuscarora and MaryD fire companies and Tamaqua ambulance personnel. Troopers cited Schaeffer for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
