Monroe woman jailed on charges

A Monroe County woman was jailed earlier this week on several charges including assaulting a police officer.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers were dispatched to Bill's Shop Rite in Mount Pocono about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 23, for a report of a female in the store intoxicated and then leaving the store with groceries she had not paid for.

While en route to the store police were told the female had re-entered the store and was continuing to shop. On arrival officers made contact with the female, later identified as Niambi Hamilton, 30, of Mount Pocono.

She was highly intoxicated and deemed a danger to herself and others. Police attempted to place her under arrest when she became disorderly using foul language. She was taken into custody and escorted out of the store.

Outside she refused to get into the back of a police cruiser and attempted to bite an officer. Once inside the cruiser she kicked an officer in the face and spit on him. He sustained minor injuries.

Hamilton was arraigned on charges of aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, retail theft, and public drunkenness. She failed to post $10,000 percentage bail and was committed to the county prison in Snydersville.
