Volunteers planted six 25-foot maple trees at the Lehigh Canal Park at Lock 13 in Parryville on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day. The trees will also stabilize the area and provide shade for park visitors.

Several members of the Beltzville Lions Club Robert Maholick, Joe Craig and Tom Zellner handled the planting.

Joe Krock of Sugar Hollow Farms, Effort, donated services for the project. He brought a Bobcat and operated the bucket to dig the holes.

Also assisting were several Trail Tender volunteers, John Stefanik of East Penn Township; Tom and Barbara Smyth of Albrightsville; and Greg Scott, who was representing the Masonic Lodge 621, Lehighton.

Coordinating the project was Trail Tender coordinator Doug Makofka.
