Schuylkill man facing charges
A Schuylkill County man is facing more charges in connection with the sexual assault of a young girl.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Christopher Romberger, 26, of Tower City, was arrested at the county prison in Pottsville on Friday, April 20, and arraigned by District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont.
Romberger was charged with statutory sexual intercourse, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, conduct relating to sex offenders, corruption of minors, obscene and other sexual materials and performances, indecent assault and indecent exposure.
Bail was set at $10,000 straight cash and Romberger was returned to the prison.
Troopers initially charged Romberger with indecent assault and related offenses on April 10 and he was jailed. He is a registered sexual offender, troopers noted.
Troopers were contacted by the victim, a 14-year-old girl from Williamstown, concerning being assaulted by Romberger. The alleged incident occurred in a wooded area behind N. Bellas St., Tower City, on April 7, between 8 and 9 p.m.
The girl told troopers Romberger had sexual intercourse with her at the time and date stated. He also wanted her to perform oral sex on him but she refused.
The girl also showed her cell phone in which she had a photo of a man's penis that was sent to her by the defendant.
On April 17 Romberger was interviewed at the county prison and admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl and knew her age at the time.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers added.
