Driver injured after striking pole in Tamaqua

Emergency responders were called to 1200 block of East Broad Street (SR209) in Tamaqua around 8:30 this morning after the driver of a maroon Jeep Cherokee crashed into a utility pole. Passersby stated they saw the driver lying on the ground outside the vehicle and called 911. The male driver, the only person in the vehicle, was taken via ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital - Miner's Campus for unknown injuries. Firefighters stated the vehicle appeared to be going east on SR209 when it swerved to the right and struck the pole. Responding from Tamaqua were firefighters from East End Fire Company and American Hose Company, as well as Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tamaqua Police and Tamaqua Ambulance. Tamaqua Fire Police and fellow firefighters controlled traffic around the scene. The name of the driver and the cause of the accident were unknown as of press time this morning as Tamaqua Police are still investigating.
