Published April 13. 2012 05:01PM

A Schuylkill County man's car left a Lehigh County road, ripped through fencing, and landed on its roof on an off-ramp to the Northeast Extension of the turnpike.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday in South Whitehall Township.

Police said Theodore Black, 44, of New Ringgold, was driving westbound along W. Tilghman Street when the vehicle left the road and went through a fence, then flipped over and landed near the northbound off-ramp to the turnpike.

Black was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by rescue personnel. He was then taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, and admitted. A hospital spokesperson said this morning they had no information on Black.

Police said the car hit an embankment and went off the overpass.

Police are still investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
