Denise Smolar of Tamaqua suffered moderate injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 5 a.m. April 5 at the intersection of Route 209 and Water Street in New Philadelphia, according to state police at the Frackville barracks.

Police said she was driving a 2011 Kia Sportage westbound on Route 209 when a 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by Troy Fisher of Pottsville, attempted to turn left onto Water Street without first yielding the right-of-way, causing the vehicles to collide.

Police said Fisher exited the truck and fled the scene on foot without attempting to render aid to Smolar, who was unable to exit her Sportage, and without providing police required information about the crash. He will be charged at Magisterial District Office 21-3-01.

Police said both vehicles sustained moderate damages and were towed from the scene.

Police were assisted at the scene by the New Philadelphia, Cumbola and Kaska fire departments and the Pottsville-Haven EMS unit.
