West Penn Township police are investigating a bizarre incident which began at 5:30 a.m. Monday, when it was a reported a 17-month old child had wandered away from his father at a busy mini-mart.

Police responded to the E Z Market at the intersection of SR309 and SR895 in the village of Snyders. The young father reported he had parked near the gas pumps and a short time later noticed his son had apparently walked away.

West Penn police assisted by officers from Tamaqua began a search of the entire area looking behind a number of buildings, examining Dumpsters and nearby stores. One officer later checked the surveillance tape and noticed only the father exiting a late model Dodge and no child.

After several phone calls were made it was discovered the child was home and safe. Police are now questioning the father due to his actions.
