Kunkletown man charged with DUI

Published April 09. 2012 05:03PM

Mark Gurry, 49, of Kunkletown, has been arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said he was stopped on April 6 at 8:09 p.m. at the intersection of Fairgrounds and Gilbert roads in Polk Township after he was observed driving a 1997 Dodge van that proceeded through the intersection without stopping for a stop sign.

Upon making the traffic stop, police said they observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. Police said the man was given standardized field sobriety tests in which he demonstrated signs of impairment.

Police said he was transported to the police barracks for a chemical test but the man refused to submit to the testing.
