A Jim Thorpe man was jailed on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his mother.

Borough police were dispatched at about 9:07 p.m. to the rear of 103 Broadway for a fight in progress. Upon arrival officers were told by Robin Bierman that her son, Joshua David Bierman, 28, of 244 Center Ave., had assaulted her by punching her in the mouth.

Police observed Ms. Bierman bleeding from the mouth and her jaw was beginning to swell. Joshua Bierman had left the scene before the arrival of police.

Police later located Bierman in a dugout at the Sam Miller Field. He was treated at the scene by EMS personnel for self-inflicted wounds, police said, and released.

He was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned by District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $2,500 straight cash bail.
