Montgomery man facing charges

Published April 02. 2012 05:03PM

A Montgomery County man, facing charges stemming from allegedly defrauding several Tamaqua area homeowners following last May's destructive hail storm, has now been arrested by Nesquehoning police for a similar incident in the borough.

Jonathan Paul Williams, 27, of Chalfont and North Wales, has been charge with forgery, theft, receiving stolen property, secure execution of documents by deception, false impersonation privately employed, bad checks, and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received.

Williams was charged by Tamaqua police with scaming people out of insurance monies to fix their property due to storm damage.

Police Chief Sean Smith said Williams has been charged with the same type of conduct involving a borough resident.

Smith said Lawrence Larthey told police Williams represented himself as a contractor on or about Sept. 16, 2011, to check out the roof on Larthey's property that had damage done by a hail storm.

Williams represented himself as employee of Allied Construction. Later, in December Williams told Larthey he was reopening his old business Freedom Remodelers Inc., and presented a contract for the roof work for Larthey's property at 707 E. Center St.

Freedom remodeleres owner, Michael Miller, was contacted and said he received a call from Larthey about Williams. Miller said he told Larthey that the suspect was a sub-contractor for his company and was employed from April to June 2011, and has not been employed with him since then.

Miller also said Williams does not work for his company and that at no time was authorized to use his company name.

Smith said Larthey gave Williams a check for $5,567.37 to do the work. Williams cashed the check but the work was never done.

Williams was arraigned on the charges before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and released on ROR bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2.
