Underage drinking arrest in Tamaqua

Published September 28. 2011 05:01PM

Tamaqua police cited a 17-year-old male for underage drinking on Friday night, Sept. 23.

Officers on patrol at 9:20 p.m. observed a white Pontiac Grand Am coming from the area of the Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool.

The car failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Catawissa and Lafayette streets, turning left on to Lafayette. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was asked for his license and registration.

While a passenger in the car was searching for the car's registration an officer noticed a silver can of Coors original beer.

A search of the vehicle turned up eight additional empty Coors cans under the front passenger seat, an additional full can in the glove compartment and another full can in a cooler in the car's trunk.

The driver told officers the beers were all his and submitted to a portable breath test, which indicated a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent.
