About 50 emergency responders were called during heavy rains to 28 Kettle Road in Walker Township just before 8 p.m. Tuesday after a possible lightning strike to a home.

When firefighters arrived they noticed smoke emanating from the home.

After tracing the smoke to the basement, firefighters placed exhaust fans to expel the smoke. Responding in addition to New England Fire Company were fire companies from West Penn, New Ringgold, Tamaqua and Tuscarora. Also responding were ambulances from Tamaqua, Penn Mahoning, New Ringgold and Tamaqua Rescue Squad. New England fire chief Dave Duffy, fire chief, stressed, "The fire's cause is undetermined." No serious injuries were reported.
