A Tamaqua pedestrian and his dog were both struck by a pickup truck just after 7 a.m. today in the 100 block of Center Street, SR309, near the Five Points Intersection.

Joseph Nacke was taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale.

His dog, which suffered bruises and other injuries, was taken away for treatment by a friend of Nacke's.

The driver of the pickup, a Dodge Ram, was reported as Tara Strauss of Tamaqua.

Northbound traffic was backed up while police and ambulance responded.

Unidentified Good Samaritans helped control traffic for the duration.

A medic with the Allentown National Guard also assisted on scene.

It was also noted that there wasn't a crosswalk in the vicinity.

Officer Michael Hobbs is investigating the incident.
