Owners of the White Diner in South Tamaqua posted a message online that they plan to rebuild after a fire gutted a large portion of their diner Sunday afternoon.

The diner is closed because of fire, but the owners suggest on their Facebook page they plan to repair it or build a new one.

"We would like to thank our loyal patrons, who have been a second family to us, for all of your business and support. We will see you soon," the message states. The current general managers are Morgan Jones Jr. and Lori Horne.

The diner, which has operated for almost 80 years under different owners and different names, was established in 1932.

In the 1940s and early 1950s the diner was known as Jake's Diner.

Earl G. Wester owned and operated the White Diner from 1953 to 1972. He died in 1999.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
